The only members left of the preceding formation, Christian
VANDER and Klaus BLASQUIZ, surrounded by a team of renewed musicians, hire
in 1973 the studios of Manor in Oxford, to record there MËKANÏK
DESTRUKTIW KOMMANDÖH, the album considered by many to be the MAGMA's
masterpiece.
A Long articulated piece in seven movements, M.D.K knew a long gestation
before reaching its final state. The advance achieved between the short version
45t of the preceding formation where the work of the brass section prevailed,
and that which is presented on this album, is considerable. All the merit
is due to Christian VANDER who, only from now on, will take in hand in an
irreversible way the artistic destiny of MAGMA.
If the instrumental service of the group still gained in power, in particular
the arrival with Jannick TOP's bass, whose playing appears in perfect symbiosis
with the spirit of Christian VANDER's music, that which strikes above M.D.K
is the epic breath which emerges from the masterly work accomplished by the
vocal section. Propelled by an inexorable rhythm section and reinforced by
a female chorus where Stella VANDER appears for the first time, the voices
of Klaus and Christian come to haunt our spirits on these splendid songs
which seem to come straight from our collective memory, giving the music
of MAGMA a timeless and universal character.
